Lakeshore Memorial

The Story Behind The Print
- Lakeshore Memorial - Friends of ours who own a beautiful lakeshore home were in the process of renovating , or rather rebuilding the home of their dreams. Mixed emotions - we have all had the difficult job of "getting rid of things". But what about memories? How do you easily throw away items that have such vivid memories attached? I felt their sense of loss and had previously promised myself if I had to "get rid of something" that held deep memories I would at least shoot it first (photographically). That way I would hold on to the memories and perhaps have it live forever. This print is a memory of the "supports" that held up that precious old home, but had to go due to the necessity and the dream of re-building. I could have called this print "Memorial of Thankfulness". I dedicate this print to my friends who we appreciate so much. Many great shared family memories exist along with the struggles! The family ingeniously had a creative plan to let those memories live on but, in a new setting!Type rest of the post here

Costumed Lady

The Story Behind The Print - Costumed Lady emerged from a series of prints shot while on a field trip to McLean Mill, historic site in Port Alberni, BC. I regularly took a class of students from VAST Girls Project for photo shoots with digital cameras. It was during the winter and this shot included moss, leaves and snow along with a random piece of wire. This shot fascinates me because of the subliminal imagery which emerges out of the print. What do you see?

"Q" - 2008 Alberni Valley Wine Festival

Alberni Valley Wine Festival Commission for Rotary at Echo Centre

"Q" will be part of the silent auction. Rotary uses funds raised by the wine festival to support items such as community projects and bursaries. Rotary very kindly allowed me to display some of my work during the event and have access to about 15 feet of wall space in the Cedar Rooms. Thanks to Theresa Kingston and Cheryl Hamilton, two members of the committee for their valuable assistance. Also a big thank you to Vaughn Chase who permitted me to do some research at the Chase & Warren Vineyard. Read More...

New Beginnings 2

The Story Behind The Painting – New Beginnings 2 - The painting, New Beginnings 2 started on top of New Beginnings 1. This painting on paper was built on history and started from a design I created in 1969 after my studies in New York at Pratt Institute. It contains imagery related to my past, my present and my future. I am indebted to many fine teachers in my past and dedicate this painting to them as I start my new beginnings.
Thanks, Bill West, Gordon Smith, Bob Steele, Sam Black, Penny Gouldstone, Walter Rogalski, George McNeil, Norman Yates and so many others!
