Reflections - Sand Tag # 1

The Story Behind The Print
– Reflections – Sand Tag # 1 - The Painting that this Reflections Print mirrors has been here extended . Using some Software designed by the artist and programmed by one of my brilliant former students "Reflections" are created. By repositioning the key elements of the painting I can create about 16 new views. As an artist this is like taking kids to a candy store and saying “eat all you want” and then taking them to another candy store and again saying “eat all the candy you want”! Like the Paintings, the Prints allow me to play- “Sand Tag”! Read More...

Four Star Cows

The Story Behind The Print – Four Star Cows - Four Star Cows emerged from a series of prints based on photographs of the aluminum press plates which are still used by newspapers and printers. These plates are used to print the pages of newspapers and magazines and the like. Frequently, after they are used they are sold to the public for use as water-proofing the tops of pilings used in installing piles for wharves and docks. I am intrigued by the fact that they are often hammered or stapled onto the piling with the previously used ink-side down. I am fascinated to know what story or stories and photographs lie hidden on the hidden side? Often as I process this series, I am thrilled to see subliminal (hidden) imagery emerge. What do you see? Photoshoot at Port Alberni, BC, Harbour Quay Read More...

African Shield - Split

The Story Behind The Print
– African Shield - African Shield emerged from the combination of the natural vine depending upon man-made concrete and brick walls and columns for support – interdependency. The question arises which one is permanent and which is temporary. This print relates to a key print in the series, Russian Winter. In my early years as an artist I was extremely motivated by African sculpture. Read More...

Whale Sweat

The Story Behind The Print
- Whale Sweat 2 emerged from an original ink drawing which I drew in 2005 while on a one week film school experience at Gulf Island Film and Television School on Galiano Island, near Victoria, B.C.. It became one of a series of prints I have created using a self-designed software conceived by me and programmed by a former student. The original drawing is drawn on an 8 ½” x 11” sheet which has been multiplied and fitted to create reflected imagery. Read More...

Et Tu Arbutus

The Story Behind The Print
– Reflections – Et Tu Arbutus - My Brother, Wayne Pecknold was a true hero to me. He died of cancer at 60 – When we were about 8 or 9, my Dad taught us how to make a sling shot. Wayne’s was the best. It was made from an arbutus tree. It was in the shape of a Y, so my Dad had Wayne put a small piece of wood into the Y. He then showed Wayne how to use inner tube tire rubber to bind the two ends together, and he “kiln” dried it in the oven. It was perfect. This print, a variation from one of my photographs clearly exhibits the wonder and beauty of the wood. The same wood that Wayne used for his first sling shot.

The photograph that this Reflections Print mirrors has been here extended . Using some Software designed by the artist and programmed by one of my brilliant former students "Reflections" are created. By repositioning the key elements of the painting I can create about 16 new views. This particular tree was under some maple trees, the sun blocked the arbutus tree's growth, so it "fought back" and created some very celtic configurations!
